Little Red Riding Hood

She started as a nice little girl

Then she had a freak accident

The back of her head got burned really badly

All the kids made fun of her

She decided to wear something to cover her head

She tried a couple of things till she settled on a red hoody

She got popular for a couple of months

Then she got picked on again and this time kids stole her chocolate from her lunch every day

She started to go a bit crazy and started to plot an evil plan to get back at the kids that were mean to her

She decided to give them a taste of their own medicine, and she started stealing all the chocolate in the town

So she wouldn’t get caught, she took the chocolate to her granny’s house and kept it there because no one would suspect a nice old lady to smuggle candy

The Wolf

He’s from another town

He’s an honest good guy whose dad was a crook

He was raised by his mom

He has his dad’s suspicious looks

He looks like his brother who is a wanted criminal

His mom taught him always to do the right thing

His mom loved him with all her heart

He decided to be detective because his father ruined his life and he wanted to save other people from suffering like he did

He was always curious as a kid

His dad didn’t care about him at all and always told him that he was an accident

He loves chocolate

He is good at marshal arts

The Granny

She was orphaned at the age of 3

Her husband died from being beaten up by a mob

Her daughter was Little Red’s mother

Her daughter and Little Red’s dad were killed in the fire that burned Little Red’s head

The Granny had to raise Little Red

She never recovered from losing her parents and her daughter and was very overprotective of Little Red

When the kids at school picked on Little Red, the granny snapped

She encouraged Little Red to seek revenge and helped her come up with the plan to steel all the chocolate in the town

She looks like an innocent old lady

She’s sweet to everybody and every body loves her

She is shy, so she doesn’t go out much

She doesn’t get angry often, but when she does get angry, she can’t control herself she is very good at marshal arts

Dear Safta Rabba Ruchammah,
I have never really met you,
but some how I feel really close to you
I love you,
even though you're not there

I know you passed away when I was only 3 months old
but I heard some really great things about you
you were nice, smart, giving, and beautiful inside and out

I was your first and only great grand-child
and I was and am proud to have this job
and the thing that I most care about,
is that I caused you this happiness.

jonah and the whale

By Jonah and Noah

Once there was a man named Jonah. He was a messenger for G-d and he didn’t like his job. One day G-d gave an order to Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell the people of Nineveh to stop being bad. Jonah didn’t want to help the people of Nineveh instead he wanted them to get punished. G-d wanted to see if the people of Nineveh would listen to Jonah and if not G-d would destroy all of Nineveh.

So instead of listening to G-d Jonah tried to run away from Nineveh and not do what G-d asked him? He ran to the sea where he found a ship that was going to another city. He paid the captain and hid in the bottom of the ship and went to sleep.

That night a big storm occurred, all the men were scared and started to toss all their belongings overboard and prayed that they wouldn’t drown.

The captain went to find Jonah who was still asleep.
He said to Jonah “how can you sleep? Get up and pray to your G-d maybe he can help us!”

Meanwhile the other sailors decided that it was Jonah’s fault. He must have done something wrong to make his G-d so mad. So they asked Jonah “what have you done to make your G-d so angry?”

“I am running away from something that G-d asked me to do. It is my fault this is happening. If you throw me into the sea the storm will stop.”

The men didn’t want to throw Jonah into the sea so they tried to row the best they could but the storm kept getting worse. So they threw Jonah off the ship. The storm slowly calmed down. The men on the boat realized that Jonah was monotheistic (which means believes in one G-d).

Then the captain and the crew looked out to the sea as a huge fish came and swallowed Jonah. G-d actually sent the fish to keep Jonah from drowning. Jonah stayed in the fish for three day and three nights.

Just think for a second what it would be like to be inside a fish. There are no windows and lots of strange things floating around that you can’t see because it’s so dark. Other than that I’m not sure what it would be like, but Jonah probably didn’t know if he would ever see daylight again.

While Jonah was inside the fish he prayed to g-d all the time. He asked G-d to forgive him for running away and also thanked G-d for not allowing him to drown.

After the third day G-d forgave Jonah and told the fish spit him out on dry land. Jonah was happy to be out of the fish, but boy, he needed a shower.

The G-d told Jonah again to go to Nineveh and tell the people to stop being bad. This time Jonah obeyed G-d and left for Nineveh.

When Jonah got to Nineveh he told the people what had happened to him and told them the order from G-d and in 40 days the city and everything in it would be destroyed. Jonah was surprised that the people of Nineveh listened to him and that they apologized to G-d.

Soon the king of Nineveh heard what was going on and ordered that everyone must listen to G-d and stop doing bad things. When G-d saw that they were trying to be good he felt love for them and did not destroy there city.

As Jonah left the city he was made that G-d did not punish them. He knew that G-d was a loving and that he didn’t want to destroy there land.

So Jonah went on a hill and sat. G-d saw Jonah and knew how he was feeling so he explained to Jonah that he loves everyone. He does not like to destroy people who are doing bad things. G-d would rather see us turn from our bad ways and do well again.

Noah's speech 07

PICTURE THIS: You are a 10 year old child walking into the house after a day of school and smelling a home made Challah fresh out of the oven. See yourself sitting at a dining room table covered with a table cloth and dishes that were passed down 3 generations. Imagine yourself holding a Kiddush cup that belonged to your great grandfather and watching your mother lighting Shabbat candles with candlesticks belonging to your great-great grandmother. See yourself looking at pictures on your dining room wall with faces of 4 generations of your family. Even your parents as children.

Hello parents, children, judges and friends. My name is Noah Bogdonov and this is my second year in the speech contest. I’m in grade 5 at Vancouver Talmud Torah and I’m here to talk about why Shabbat evening is important to me.
You have just experienced a PART of my Shabbat evenings. Now let me tell you MORE about why Shabbat evening is so special to me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been sitting at Friday night dinners like the one I just described, sometimes with friends, sometimes with family. I have been told stories about people I love, people I live far away from and even people that I have never met in my family.

Friday nights are special to me because we sing the Shabbat prayers and THAT makes me feel closer to G-d. It helps to make Friday night just a little bit different than our every day meals and evenings together. It makes me feel safe and happy no matter what my week was like.
For our meals, we eat delicious food that my family makes. Special treats like honey cake. This recipe has been made by my great-great-great grandmother and has been passed down to me. I am getting hungry just thinking about it, so let me continue.
I enjoy the privilege of getting to stay up later than usual. I love having my family come over, especially when I get to play with my baby cousin. We like to tell jokes and stories about our day, talk about the good and bad parts of our week and talk about the ancestors on the wall. We play games at the end of the meal. We even dance, sometimes sing and play our instruments. All of this helps to bring us closer and closer together. Shabbat evening is also special because it creates a lot of memories that I KNOW I will share with my children some day. I think that if ALL children in the world had a night like Shabbat, maybe there would be more happy people around.

You have just heard why I love Shabbat and I’m sure some of you feel the same. I hope that now you understand why I chose to talk about Shabbat evenings and if you STILL don’t get it, maybe my mom will invite you over for a Shabbat dinner with us soon.
