Plagiarism; What it is and how to avoid it

Plagiarism
(These guidelines are from the IU Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct; all students are required to follow them.)

Plagiarism is an idea, expresion, plot, theory or opinion taken from another and used as your own. Plagerism is when you take someone elses actual spoken or writen words. If you write something that is common knowledge which means that it can be found it alot of places and alot of people know about it, it doesnt count as plagiarism. You must cite where you got your information cleary so it is not plagiarism anymore.

To avoid Plagiarism you must cite the source cleary. You cant take someone elses words directly change a couple words and says its yours. A stratagy is put in quotations everything that you have taken directly out of someone else.

Paraphrasing is using someone elses ideas and putting them in your own words. Even though you are putting them in your own words you cant take all the credit for something that isnt all you.
