Isabelle and Mikaela's Project

Jewish Family Services is a non-profit organization. They help people in and outside the Jewish community throughout the lower mainland. Their goal is to make sure every family and individual has a better life to create a better Jewish community. They are committed to the Jewish values and try to have professional service performed by staff and volunteers.

BC has the highest level of poverty, number of working poor who make minimum wage and the number of children living under the poverty line in Canada.
“JFSA served over 7000 clients in our community - the hungry, the homeless, families in crisis, children living in poverty, adults
with mental disabilities, isolated seniors and immigrants struggling to make new lives in Canada. “
It is an organization where Jewish people and others from the community can ask for help.

Mikaela and I chose JFSA for our Tikun Olam project. We chose it because we had an idea that we would do some fundraisers in order to raise money for us to buy some goods such as books and toys for a family in need. So our action plan and JFSA’s cause fit perfectly. Since the organization deals with many families with kids who can’t afford to buy certain goods, we felt it would be a great mitzvah to surprise one of the families with a basket full of presents from an anonymous donor.

There are many things kids can do to support JFSA but I am only going to mention one of them. What kids can do is make either a bake sale, lemonade stand or some sort of fundraiser that would raise money for your cause. After you have finished with fundraising, go to stores that sell goods for families such as toy stores, book stores, video stores, grocery stores etc. and buy some things or gift certificates with the money you raised. Then put all of the goods into a nice basket and give it to JFSA to donate it to one of the needy families.
